Platinum ore sits between iron and diamond in both rarity and value, so a little planning goes a long way. This guide covers where the ore generates, what pickaxe you need, how veins are shaped and the routes that turn a short mining trip into a full set of platinum gear.
Where Platinum Ore Spawns
With default settings, Platinum Mod generates ore throughout stone and deepslate, but the density is not even. Knowing the curve saves hours.
Best Y Levels
Veins are most common between Y 0 and Y -40, peaking near Y -24. You will still find scattered ore up to Y 20, but the lower band is where full veins appear.
Deepslate Variant
Below Y 0 the ore appears as deepslate platinum ore. It takes longer to mine but drops the same raw platinum, and Fortune works on both variants.
Tools You Need
Platinum ore requires an iron pickaxe or better. Stone pickaxes break the block without dropping anything, which is an easy way to waste a vein.

Fortune or Silk Touch
Fortune III raises raw platinum drops per block. Silk Touch keeps the ore block itself, which is handy if you want to smelt later or decorate with it.
Light and Safety
Deep mining means lava pools and dark caves. Carry torches, a water bucket and some food. Platinum armor is a nice goal, but iron armor is enough for the trip that gets you there.
Reading Vein Shapes
Platinum veins are compact clusters of four to nine blocks, usually stretched along one axis. When you spot one block, mine around it before moving on.
Following a Vein
Break the visible block, then check all six faces of the gap it leaves. Veins often continue diagonally, so clear one extra block in each direction.
Efficient Mining Routes
Caves expose a lot of ore quickly, while branch mining is slower but more thorough. Most players mix the two.
Branch Mining Pattern
Dig a main tunnel at Y -24, then side branches every three blocks. The two-block gap between branches means you see every block without mining it.
Cave Exploration
Large deepslate caves expose walls in every direction. Sweep them with torches on one side so you never lose your way back.
What to Do With Your Haul
Smelt raw platinum in a furnace or blast furnace to get ingots. Nine ingots craft a storage block and nine nuggets craft an ingot.
First Items to Craft
A platinum pickaxe first, since it speeds up everything else. Then see our crafting recipes and tools and armor guide to plan the rest.
